Masseria Dagilupi

Restored Masseria in Ostuni

Masseria Dagilupi The aim of this project was to redevelop and convert a neglected rural building into holiday accommodation. Dating from as far back as the 17th century, the building is located in a typical Puglian setting between the town of Ostuni and the coast, in an agricultural area characterised by trees, olive trees for the most part.

The building is typical of farming service buildings found across the Ostuni region, with a load-bearing masonry structure consisting of irregular stone blocks and vaulted rooms. It would have been used in part as housing and in part to provide areas for a variety of farming activities (courtyard, stables, storage, underground olive oil mill, etc.). Acting on a targeted and more general basis, the intervention strategy aimed to turn this complex of buildings into a space that was both organic and able to guarantee the privacy of those making use of its services.

The project concept was to keep as much of the structure as possible intact by reorganising the spaces and thoroughfares to ensure a close relationship between the interior and exterior. The reception rooms, kitchen and common areas are closely connected to the pre-existing outdoor courtyard, with the accommodation facilities arranged on the same model to create an outdoor area with a small courtyard.
