Villa Aurora

Villa Aurora in Puglia

Villa Aurora is a turnkey property in a “Contrada” between Cisternino and Ostuni. Villa Aurora owners are a young English couple with two little girls; they moved to Puglia some years ago to start a new “Mediterranean country life”. Constant contact with the natural environment in the village of Casalini was what they were looking for, with the opportunity to make oil and jams from fruit grown on their trees, cook vegetables from the kitchen garden, and drink wine from their own vineyard. The desire to bring up their children in a place with clean air and healthy food was the spark that triggered their decision to move to Puglia. They found a piece of land in a “Contrada” between Cisternino and Ostuni.

They purchased the land and commissioned a new build turnkey contemporary property from architect Daniele Corsaro. Daniele’s design was a white gleaming prism facing south towards a lovely vineyard. The interplay between the house’s internal and external spaces emphasises and mirrors the hilly landscape typical of the Valle D’Itria. The dwelling is characterised by a covered main entrance that leads to a wide living area with panoramic views. Villa Aurora is a three-bedroom house set above a stunning valley of olive trees and vineyards, 4km from Cisternino, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. It is a contemporary take on a traditional lamia; the blend of minimalist architecture and mid-century lighting creates a serene and airy interior, finished with grey stone flooring and lime plaster.

The 11m glass front frames a panoramic view of the valley and the sky’s ever-changing light. The sun rises onto the cantilevered terrace and sets in full view of the rooftop seating area. Large, fully retractable windows that bathe the rooms with Puglian light let in the breeze from the plateau. There are numerous fruit trees within the surrounding five acres of land, an almond grove and olive trees separated by meadows and dry stone walls. Bespoke teak decked swimming pool sits at the end of a gravel path.
